G. Christopher Smith

Partner & CEO

Chris founded Ohana in 2009 and is responsible for the oversight of the investment, asset management, development, and finance functions of the firm. Prior to Ohana, Chris was an investment officer at Comprehensive Financial Management (CFM), a full-service family investment office serving two families of significant wealth. Prior to CFM, Chris held positions with another family investment office, worked in the Business Strategy and Development group at Gap, Inc. Chris began his career as a financial analyst at Adams, Harkness & Hill, a boutique investment bank serving emerging growth companies. Chris is a member of the Golden Gate Chapter of YPO, Urban Land Institute, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, and an active supporter of Special Olympics. Chris graduated from Amherst College.

John Ginochio

Chief Financial Officer

John has responsibility for managing Ohana’s overall legal & tax structuring, internal controls and all aspects of the finance and accounting function, including financial reporting, planning, accounting, treasury management, fund-level financing, and managing key internal and external relationships. He also oversees human resources, information technology, risk management and serves as Chief Compliance Officer. John brings 15 years of extensive real estate and fund experience, most recently at Prologis, where he held a variety of leadership roles in operations, FP&A, and financial reporting. He also completed international assignments in Amsterdam and Mexico City. Prior to Prologis, John worked for PwC where he was Audit Manager in the San Francisco real estate practice, serving both privately-held and SEC-registered clients. John received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a licensed CPA (inactive) in the state of California.

James Cole

Partner, Asset Management

James leads the Asset Management team, who’s focus is on business plan implementation, value creation and optimization, capital management, financial planning, and reporting across the entire equity and credit portfolio. James also oversees the loan servicing within the credit portfolio. James has over 15 years of hotel operations experience, particularly with Club Corporation, Dorchester Collection, and most recently with The Ritz-Carlton where he held the title of General Manager. Prior to Ohana, James held senior leadership roles with multiple brands in several unique hospitality environments, including boutique, city, resort, and international hotels. James graduated from The George Washington University with a BA in Economics.

Franco Famularo

Partner, Investments

Franco oversees Ohana’s acquisitions, lending, and capital markets activities including new investment sourcing, evaluation, and execution. Prior to joining Ohana in May 2015, Franco was a Principal on the real estate acquisitions team at Blackstone in New York where his duties included underwriting and executing investments in single assets, property portfolios, distressed loans, and corporations across several property sectors including hotels. Prior to Blackstone, Franco held other positions in real estate private equity and investment banking. Franco graduated with a B.S. in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and obtained his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Fernando Lamas

Partner, Business Development

Fernando oversees the business development activities at Ohana. Prior to joining Ohana, Fernando was a Managing Partner at BTG Pactual where he served as the Global Head of Distribution for the BTG Pactual Asset Management Division. Prior to joining BTG Pactual in 2010, Fernando was a Senior Managing Director and Partner at BSE Management where he was in charge of business development and marketing. Prior to BSE, Fernando served as Executive Director in the Prime Services Division at UBS Investment Bank and also served as Vice President in the Private Client Services Division at Credit Suisse First Boston (formerly Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette). Fernando holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Tulane University and an MBA from Columbia University.

Alex Hill

President, Design and Construction

Alex oversees Ohana’s development in relation to all projects, including Maravilla Los Cabos, Montage Los Cabos, and Montage Healdsburg. As The Executive Vice President of Development, Alex oversaw Ohana’s $30mm renovation of Bacara Resort and Spa, which was acquired in 2011 and sold in 2013. Additionally, he oversaw the development of Montage Laguna Beach, Montage Beverly Hills, and Montage Deer Valley. Prior to joining Ohana, Alex was the Executive Vice President of Hospitality for Tynan Group, Inc., a nationally recognized full-service development management group that completed over $2 billion in residential and hotel development projects. Alex has also held positions with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and ITT Sheraton. Alex graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in both Hotel Restaurant & Institutional Management and Food System Economics Management from Michigan State University.

Neil Johnson

Managing Director. Residential Real Estate

Neil is responsible for business development, representing Ohana’s residential offering with owners, buyers, partners, and press. He also represents Ohana as the ownership group in developer sales transactions, sets inventory and pricing, and oversees legal and contracts administration. Neil has a keen understanding of the luxury real estate market, and works closely with the investments and development teams on new opportunities and projects. Born and raised in Nashville, TN Neil holds a B.S. in Communications from the University of Tennessee where he was a Football Letterman on 2 SEC Championship and 1 National Championship Teams. Afterwards, Neil started a career in the medical industry for Stryker Corporation and in 2008 he and his family moved from Nashville, TN to Park City, UT where he began working for local developers and a national real estate auction firm. Neil is a member of Urban Land Institute and an active board member at Park City Medical Center.

Beth Albano

Design Manager, Design and Construction

Beth coordinates all design-related projects for Ohana and acts as a liaison with design and architecture consultants. She also bridges the gaps between design, construction, sales, and marketing. Her main focus is managing all FFE design, from initial contact through installation. Prior to working at Ohana, Beth worked at a hospitality design firm for over six years, based in San Francisco but traveling all over the world. She also worked as a representative for an architectural firm. Beth holds a degree in Interior Architecture from Arizona State University.

Melody Chen

Analyst, Investments and Asset Management

Melody is responsible for conducting data analysis on property financial performance and trends, including ROI, capital expenditure and profit & lost statements. In addition, she conducts competitive and supply & demand research, and provides market analysis related to markets in which assets are located. She is also responsible for analyzing annual budgets to assist the team with establishing asset management plans, and making recommendations for improving their reporting platform. Melody has experience in relational database management system, statistical data analysis/modeling, and business reporting. Melody graduated from Cornell University with a master’s degree in Information Science, and she holds a BA from Wesleyan University.

Charles Corwin

Vice President, Design and Construction

Charles Corwin oversees and directs all facets of the planning and design for Ohana’s expansion in resort, hotel and residential developments. With over 30 years of experience in worldwide hospitality property design and development, his responsibilities facilitate the construction of each new property. Prior to joining Ohana, Charles worked as an architect and Managing Principal at WATG before moving on to focus on the development side. Charles holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Idaho.

Eric Crispin

Vice President, Design and Construction

Eric oversees Ohana’s office in Honolulu. He is a licensed architect both in Hawaii and Brazil, and since 2001 has served as Honorary Consul for Brazil in Hawaii. He also previously served as Planning Director for the City & County of Honolulu and as Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for Starwood Hotels. Eric holds a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning form Sao Paulo Brazil.

Shawn Hoctor

Sr. Director of Finance, Design and Construction

Shawn is a key link between the accounting, development, and asset management functions at Ohana as well as between Ohana and project accounting teams. Shawn focuses on enhancements to operational and development reporting. He brings a wealth of accounting experience and knowledge pertaining to the luxury hospitality industry, coming to Ohana most recently from Irvine Company where he oversaw the accounting operations for their resort portfolio. Prior to that, Shawn was an integral member of Montage Hotels & Resorts for over eight years where he worked in accounting overseeing the corporate books as well as the opening of the company’s first three hotels. Shawn graduated with a degree in accounting from California State University, Long Beach.

Anna Jones

Marketing Manager

As a member of Ohana’s marketing team, Anna is responsible for executing product-based marketing campaigns for Ohana’s luxury real estate projects, building strategic materials and messaging that enhances the overall sales process. Previously in the luxury real estate and hospitality industry, Anna was the Senior Marketing Manager at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, S.C., where she managed a wide variety of marketing projects, from print and digital campaigns to content marketing to event planning and execution. Anna graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Journalism & Mass Communications.

Hannah Kim

Sr. Analyst, Investments and Asset Management

Hannah is involved in the valuations, financial reporting, market research, returns analysis, and internal technology initiatives for existing investments. Prior to joining Ohana, Hannah was an Associate at WeWork, where she focused on real estate underwriting and business development strategy. Prior to WeWork, Hannah was an Analyst in the Acquisitions team at Beacon Capital Partners where her duties included underwriting and leading financial due diligence on new investments in the Los Angeles market, as well as assisting in asset management activities in dispositions, financing, capital management, and investor reporting. Hannah graduated from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University with a BS in Hotel Administration.

Cindy La

Sales Operations Associate

Cindy provides integral support to the Ohana Realty sales teams, enabling the sales team’s analytic focus through research and reporting tools as well as the development of outreach target lists. Cindy promotes communications between teams and offices and is responsible for the management of the CRM system, working on its strategic development via institutional data collection and in-depth reporting across Ohana properties. In addition, she fields initial sales inquiries, provides support for the training of sales positions, and is the office manager for the Ohana Realty Beverly Hills office. Cindy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California.

Janet Lai

Accounting Manager

Janet’s role is a key link between the Finance, Acquisitions, and Asset Management teams. Some of Janet’s responsibilities include overseeing employee expense reimbursement, managing the billing process for fees and expense reimbursements, facilitating Accounts Receivable collection, managing the cash requirements of portfolios and the individual properties, facilitating the reimbursement of inter-company accounts, overseeing the IRS Form 1099 process, preparing the sales tax and business tax filing, managing the legal entities and bank accounts, assisting in the preparation of annual budgeting and forecasting, and assisting in the documentation and enforcement of accounting policies and procedures. Janet came to us from U-Freight America, Inc., where she held the position of Corporate Accounting Manager. She brings a wealth of corporate accounting knowledge with 20+ years of experience. Janet graduated from San Francisco State University with a BS in Finance.

Stephanie Lam

Vice President - Finance

Stephanie brings over 10 years of experience in private equity, investment management, and financial operations. As Vice President of Finance for Ohana Real Estate Investors, Stephanie is responsible for the accounting operations and financial reporting for Ohana’s investments and management company. Prior to joining Ohana in 2016, Stephanie was a Controller at SVB Capital where she oversaw the financial, tax, and investor reporting across 10 fund of funds and direct investment funds totaling over $1.5 billion in committed capital. Prior to SVB Capital, Stephanie was an Accounting Manager at Marlin Equity where she developed procedures, budgets, and enhanced reporting for Mariln’s four global private equity funds totaling over $2.5 billion. Previously, Stephanie was part of the funds group of Colony Capital and CIM Group. Stephanie began her career in the real estate audit practice of Deloitte & Touche after graduating from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Alix Lemke

Marketing Coordinator

As Marketing Coordinator, Alix manages social media and asset creation, including photo, video, virtual tours, and renderings. She also fully supports the marketing team in overall marketing programs and executes marketing initiatives across web, email, advertising, and PR. Prior to working at Ohana, Alix served as Digital Marketing Intern for a hospitality-focused firm, and was previously the VP of Marketing for Her Campus UCSD. She received her Bachelor’s degree in International Business/Marketing and Economics from the University of California, San Diego.

Jonathan Loke

Associate, Investments and Asset Management

Jonathan is responsible for supporting all aspects of the asset management team. He has a breadth of experience in hospitality and real estate having worked at EY, Fulcrum Hospitality (boutique operating partner and hotel asset manager in New York City) and WanderJaunt (a short-term rental tech startup in San Francisco). Jonathan graduated from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration with a BS in hotel administration and a minor in real estate.

Tom Manok

Vice President, Design and Construction

As a Vice President at Ohana, Tom oversees multiple development and construction projects at a time. Tom provides coordination, support, direction, and advice to the construction team regarding design and construction issues. Since joining Ohana, Tom has served as the Interim Construction Coordinator for the Vista Serena project, has overseen the exterior skin installation and residential construction for the Montage Deer Valley, and oversaw multiple facets of the renovation of Bacara Resort and Spa. Prior to joining Ohana, Tom gained extensive experience in architecture, construction management, general contracting, and owner’s representation skills by working on hospitality & resort projects as well as restaurants, night clubs, casinos, and concert venues as a Managing Partner in his own architectural firm.

Susie Ng

Associate, Investments and Asset Management

Susie is responsible for analyzing potential debt and equity investments through building investment models, analyzing financial trends, and comparing geographic comp sets. Susie then performs due diligence and assists with executing on the acquisition and financing of new investments. Prior to joining the Ohana Investment team, Susie worked as a Financial Analyst on the Ohana Finance team. Susie passed the Level III CFA exam and is a Certified Public Accountant. Susie graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with honors from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and obtained her Master’s degree in Finance from EDHEC Business School in Nice, France.

Soren Olsen

Managing Director, Residential Real Estate

Soren is an integral member of the sales team focused on both Maravilla Los Cabos and resale activity at Montage Beverly Hills. Her responsibilities include implementing and executing sales strategies, developing and maintaining affluent client and broker relationships, and managing sales team members in order to deliver sales results. Soren was previously a member of the residential sales team for Montage Beverly Hills. Prior to her career with Montage and Ohana, Soren worked on the Corporate Finance team at Dewey & LeBoeuf, LLP. Soren earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Azusa Pacific University.

Nathan Tucker

Project Manager, Design & Construction

As a Project Manager for Ohana, Nathan champions the transition of projects from the estimating phase to the field. He participates in activities to support Ohana’s strategic planning efforts and assists in developing, facilitating, and administering long and short-range construction programs. Additionally, he provides design input and recommendations regarding construction issues. Nathan also serves as a technical advisor in the formulation of policies, plans, and procedures. Prior to working at Ohana, Nathan held different project manager roles in Park City, Utah, at the Waldorf as well as the Montage Deer Valley.

Ebony Velasquez

Office Manager

Ebony serves as the Office Manager for Ohana’s Redwood City, CA headquarters, making the office a welcoming, fun place to work while playing an integral role in the day-to-day effectiveness and efficiency of the office. In addition to office administration, she handles the planning and execution of companywide activities and events and manages certain human resources processes while holding a passion for helping others. Ebony graduated from the University of Potsdam with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and minor in Human Services.

Joe Ward

Vice President, Investments and Asset Management

Joe is responsible for the execution of a wide variety of asset management assignments including product and market strategy, performance monitoring and optimization, capital management, financial planning, and reporting. Joe has over 12 years of hotel finance experience with Marriott International and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. Prior to joining Ohana, Joe held senior leadership roles with multiple brands in several hospitality environments, including convention, city, suburban, and resort hotels. Joe also has experience working in international markets, having worked in Australia and southeast Asia. Joe graduated from The University of Maryland at College Park with a BS in Finance.

Brandon Yeh

Associate, Investments and Asset Management

Brandon is an all-round player that engages in aspects of Ohana’s dynamic investment activities, which have included valuation, returns analysis, strategy execution, and fundraising. Prior to OREI, Brandon spent formative years at Starwood Capital Group in Greenwich covering a variety of developments spanning multiple asset classes. In addition to valuation and analysis, he focused on the pre-opening, hotel operations and construction closeout of the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, the sellout of a $1 billion NYC luxury condo portfolio, and the pre-development phase of a ground-up, 42-story luxury multifamily project in Jersey City. Brandon graduated from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration with a minor in Real Estate in 2016.

Pauline Yeung

Accountant

As a member of Finance and Accounting team, Pauline is responsible for general accounting functions, including reconciling balance sheet accounts and preparing journal entry, reviewing employee expense report and corporate credit card accounts, overseeing inter-company expense bill-back process, recording payroll transactions and reconciling payroll accounts. Paulin has diversified experience in different areas of Finance and Accounting, including debt portfolio analysis, payroll management, cash management, corporate accounting, and real estate management accounting. Pauline holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from San Francisco State University.

Eddie Yu

Vice President, Investments and Asset Management

Eddie is a member of OREI’s Investments team helping to analyze and oversee new equity and debt investments. Prior to joining OREI’s Investment team, Eddie was on the Investment team at CIM Group. Prior to CIM, Eddie was an investment banking analyst in the M&A group at RBS. Eddie is a member of the State Bar of California. Eddie graduated with a BS from Columbia University and obtained a JD-MBA from the Kellogg School of Management / Northwestern School of Law.
